Stocking Fillers for Kids

The stocking is half the fun of Christmas morning. But most fillers are binned by Boxing Day. These aren't.

Good stocking fillers have three things in common. They're small enough to fit in a stocking (obvious, but worth stating). They're under a tenner or so. And they're something the kid will actually use again after the novelty wears off.

Ideas that work

A small night light. Card games (Dobble, Uno — classics for a reason). A good torch. A fidget toy that's well-made. Bath crayons. A mini notebook with a decent pen. Chocolate coins (some traditions are sacred).

Ideas that don't

Anything with batteries that aren't included. Slime (your future self will thank you). Things that make noise and don't have an off switch. Anything too complicated to open or assemble on Christmas morning without tools.

The sweet spot

The best stocking fillers are things kids wouldn't think to ask for but immediately love. A small surprise that's useful and fun. Night lights fit this perfectly — no kid puts "lamp" on their Christmas list, but a cute glowing animal gets a reaction every time.
