LED Night Lights
LED is the standard now. Here's why, and what to actually look for.
Almost every night light sold today uses LEDs. That's not marketing — it's just the better technology. LEDs use less power, last longer, and don't get hot. That last point matters a lot when the thing is sitting next to a sleeping child.
LED vs older bulb types
Incandescent bulbs get hot. That's a safety issue for kids' rooms and a fire risk next to fabric. They also burn out faster and use more electricity. Fluorescent lights flicker and contain mercury. LEDs run cool, last thousands of hours, and come in every colour temperature from warm amber to daylight white.
What to look for in an LED night light
Colour temperature matters most. Look for "warm white" for bedtime use — cool white and blue-toned LEDs feel harsh in a bedroom. Brightness should be adjustable. A single fixed brightness works for some situations, but adjustable is always better.
Battery vs plug-in
LED's low power draw makes rechargeable battery lights practical. A small battery can run an LED for 8+ hours. That wasn't possible with older bulb types.
