Mood Lights
The overhead light is for seeing things. A mood light is for feeling things.
Mood lighting is any light source that's not trying to illuminate a room — it's trying to set a vibe. A warm glow on a bedside table. A soft colour wash on a desk. Something that makes a space feel intentional rather than just... lit.
The simplest version is a small lamp with warm, diffused light. No overhead glare, no cool-white LEDs, no fluorescent tubes. Just a gentle glow that makes you want to sit down and stay.
Where mood lights work
Bedrooms (obvious). Home offices during evening hours. Living rooms when the main light is too harsh. Bathrooms for a late-night bath. Kids' rooms at bedtime. Anywhere you want the lighting to match a calmer energy than "full brightness."
What makes a good mood light
Warm colour temperature. Adjustable brightness so you can dial it down. Something that looks good turned off as well as on — a mood light sits in plain sight, so it needs to earn its spot aesthetically. Soft silicone shapes work well here because they double as decor.
Mood light vs night light
Same product, different context. A night light runs overnight for comfort or navigation. A mood light runs in the evening for ambience. Many lights do both — bright enough for mood lighting, dim enough for sleeping.
