Bedside Lamp for Kids
The lamp on the bedside table sets the mood for the whole room. Pick the wrong one and bedtime gets harder.
A bedside lamp for a kid's room has a different job than a normal lamp. It needs to be bright enough for stories but dim enough for sleep. It needs to survive being knocked off the table. And ideally, it needs to look like something the kid actually chose — not something you inflicted on them.
What makes a good one
Adjustable brightness is non-negotiable. A lamp stuck on one setting is either too bright for sleep or too dim for reading. You want at least two levels, ideally three. Warm light (not cool white) helps with winding down.
The lamp should be stable. Kids reach for things in the dark. A tall, top-heavy lamp gets knocked over. Something low and wide, or something soft that doesn't break when it falls, works better.
Plug-in vs portable
Plug-in lamps are fine if the bedside table is near a socket. Rechargeable lamps give you more flexibility — move them to the bathroom for midnight trips, take them on holiday, no trailing cables for small hands to pull.
