Night Light for Nursery
The nursery light sets the tone. Too bright and nobody sleeps. Too dark and you can't find the muslin cloth.
A nursery night light has multiple jobs. During feeds and changes, it needs to give enough light to work by. During sleep, it needs to be dim enough to not interfere. And it needs to do both without you fiddling with settings while holding a baby.
Placement
Not in the cot. Obvious, but worth saying. On a surface the baby can't reach — a shelf, a chest of drawers, a windowsill. Away from fabric that could cover it. And positioned so the light doesn't shine directly into the cot; you want ambient glow, not a spotlight on their face.
Colour and brightness
Warm tones. Amber or warm white tend to feel calmer at night than cool white. Some parents prefer red-toned light for night feeds because it's less disruptive, though some find it a bit eerie. Adjustable brightness matters — bright enough for a 3am nappy change, dim enough to fade into the background during sleep.
Safety
No cables within reach of the cot. Nothing that gets hot. LED-based lights stay cool, which is one reason they've become the standard for nurseries.
